ReNo is a Nordic multidisciplinary network of scientists, practitioners, policy makers and entrepreneurs working with ecological restoration.  The network is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers and is one of four theme projects initated by the Icelandic Ministry of Environment for 2009, when Iceland is leading the NCM.  All the Nordic countries participate in the project.  For project description click here.

Within ReNo we will:
a) conduct national assessment of the extent, status, methods and results of restoration activities in  the Nordic countries
b) analyze the natural and socio-economic processes involved in restoration
c) identify knowledge gaps and inadequate policy instruments
d) develop paradigms and guidelines for restoration

The project is expected to:
• enhance knowledge and professional skills in ecosystem restoration in the Nordic countries
• increase awareness of the importance and the potential of ecosystem restoration for improved  environmental quality and nature  conservation
• develop multidisciplinary paradigms for ecosystem restoration in order to increase the effectiveness  of restoration projects
• identify potential knowledge gaps and, if needed, design new research programs
• provide recommendations for improved policy instruments
